Research Interests

  • Research Research Achievements 1. Development of winter and Heat tolerant tomato hybrids (Lycopersicon esculentum, L.). Well accepted by the farmers and grown in Bangladesh during hot summer. Variety released as BARI Hybrid tomato-8 and BARI Tomato 15 2. Development of Photo-insensitive Lablab bean (Lablab purpureus L. Sweet) variety. Can be grown during summer season and released as Sikrib Sheem-1 and Sikribi Sheem- 2. 3. Development of production technology for high value vegetable crops like sweet pepper, Broccoli, Summer tomato and summer country bean. 4. Development of low cost production technology of high value vegetable crops and adaptation in Sylhet region While working at BARI and SAU he was directly involved in several vegetable variety and technology development program. For an example, development of heat tolerant tomato varieties suitable for summer season cultivation and is now a very popular and viable technology in the country. During last seven years Mr Islam actively involved in country bean breeding program (crossing and subsequent selection based on homozygosity) and finally succeeded to develop some photo-insensitive advance lines which are suitable for extreme summer season cultivation. Among the selected lines one photo-insensitive country bean variety was released as BARI Sheem-7 in 2011. Later on other two photo-insensitive country bean varieties were registered from Minstry of Agriculture for commercial cultivation and named as Sikribi Sheem-1 and Sikribi Sheem-2 in 2015. In addition to this he has developed various technologies like, production package, quality seed production, hybrid seed production techniques of some vegetable crops etc. Research Projects Completed Sl No. Title Source of Fund Status 1.
